Returning Trend: I Love Italy

Julia Roberts, Eva Longoria, Jude Law: more and more stars are choosing to spend their vacations in Italy, just like in the olden days, when Hollywood dreamt of La Dolce Vita. What is bringing them to Italy now? Good food is high on the list.

Rocca Borromeo

Italy is back in fashion among American and British stars. Actors, musicians and fashion stars have booked their tickets to Italy. They come for vacation, they come to buy property and some have even begun to make wine. Mick Hucknall, for example, the lead singer of Simply Red, moved to a property at the foothills of Mount Etna and has decided to focus his attention on his winery. (One of his wines is named “Il Cantante,” The Singer.) Sicily, with its fragrant orange blossoms, fresh fish and the strong flavor of the island’s citrus, has attracted everyone from Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue USA, to Susan Sarandon. After George Clooney and Matt Damon bought homes near Lake Como, Tom Cruise and publishing mogul Rupert Murdock did as well, entranced by the beautiful landscape.

The list of stars in love with Italy is long. So long, in fact, that Tripadvisor, the largest online travel community in the world, named Italy one of the top ten most loved places by American celebrities. Even People Magazine published an article about the return of the Italian dolce vita. The trend is backed by the research of ENIT (the Italian Board of Tourism), which has witnessed a 25% increase of American tourists in Italy.

Italian Landscape

Thanks to the green and varied landscape, the warm and welcoming hospitality of the Italians, as well as the good food, the country has come to represent a sexy, pleasure-filled lifestyle. Who doesn’t dream of sitting down before a plate of pasta, together with a couple of friends? Of standing in front of an artistic masterpiece? Of sipping wine while watching the sun set over Rome? Daily life in Italy is a celebration of people and culture.
